Redding California Mayor Ken Murray embraces religious hatred & bigotry

Redding, Calif., Mayor Ken Murray claimed Shia Muslims "believe it's acceptable to lie, cheat, steal and kill as long as it ultimately glorifies Allah." "Folks, they're not like us," said Murray.When asked about his offensive remarks, Murray drew a distinction between "mainstream" and Shia Muslims, who he called "wing nuts." "Either the Judeo-Christian philosophy will survive or the Islamic philosophy will survive," said Murray.Murray's comments came during an event on Thursday of last week co-sponsored by the Shasta County Sheriff's Department, the Shasta County Jail Chaplaincy and the Marshal's Office. District Attorney Jerry Benito, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko and Assemblyman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) also took part in the event.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Ken returned home to Southern California where he worked in the electronics industry.
In 1970, Ken moved to Redding and made it home by demonstrating his strong commitment to the community through service in many organizations. Ken served on the Shasta County Planning Commission, is a Founding Member of the Redding Area Development Committee, a past Board Member of the Shasta County Women’s Refuge and executed numerous other public service appointments as an elected member of the Redding City Council from 1994 to 1998. Ken’s previous service on the City Council included serving as Mayor in 1997/98 and Council liaison to the electric industry during its tumultuous years when California launched an experiment with electric industry deregulation. He was President of the Modesto-Santa Clara-Redding (MSR) joint powers authority and served on the Board of the Northern California Power Agency (NCPA) and the Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC).
Ken is a Realtor with Redding Realty where he has worked for the past 28 years. He also is producer and host of “Murray in the Morning” heard weekdays on KQMS radio 1400AM from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Ken was re-elected to the City Council November 2, 2004, with strong support of his wife, Ginger who is an author.
Liaison Assignments: Ken is the Council liaison to the Administrative Services and Development Services Departments as well as the Police Department. He also serves as the City Council representative to the Turtle Bay Museum, and acts as Chair to the Redding Redevelopment Agency and the Redding Area Bus Authority.
